Siglufjordur, Iceland – near the Arctic Circle.
Our first delivery to Siglufjordur was in 1989, when we delivered 3 T-21 units that have been in all-year use for fishing boats. Last year we placed one SF1030-20 and two 12m concrete fingers facing each other, thereby closing the wake through the harbour inlet. Since that installation, at least 3 severe storms hit the harbour with winds gusting at over 50m/sec. The gusting winds were not coming straight through the harbour entrance, but instead there was a steady wind from the north-northeast at 30 – 35m per second which lasted for hours.
The harbour-master said, “It is unbelievable how the harbour was quite safe behind the floating pontoons, and the fingers are working perfectly as a solid breakwater”.
In addition, this is the first harbour where we have used the ADT drilling rig for 3m Helical Anchors. Two anchors were placed at 40° angles to the sides, and one “Y” line placed at the centerline of the pontoon, fixed to the inward end. In total, there are 3 Helical Anchors in place. After 2 severe storms we checked the anchors and verified that there had been no movement.
